Gin is an alcoholic beverage that has won the palate of many, but the production process can vary greatly depending on the method used. In this article, we will discuss gin production and the three main production methods: distilled, compound and London dry.

THE HISTORY OF GIN: from its origins to the present day.

Distilled gin Distilled gin is the most common and traditional method of producing gin. The production process begins with an alcoholic base, usually grain, which is mixed with botanicals and then distilled in steam stills. After distillation, the gin is diluted with water to achieve the desired alcohol content. This method of production has been used since the early 18th century and is still one of the most popular methods today.

Compound gin Compound gin, unlike distilled gin, does not undergo distillation. In this method, botanicals are simply mixed with a base alcohol and left to infuse for several days or weeks until the flavors and aromas of the botanicals are fully extracted. Once the infusion is finished, the gin is strained and then diluted with water to achieve the desired alcohol content. Compound gin is a less expensive method than distilled gin, but it produces a final product with a less complex flavor.

London dry gin London dry gin is a type of distilled gin that is produced using a specific and strict method. The alcohol base is distilled with botanicals, but without the addition of sugar or other flavorings after distillation. London dry gin must be produced using only natural ingredients and must have a minimum alcohol content of 37.5%. This production method was developed in London in the 18th century and still represents one of the most popular types of gin around the world.
